Maharashtra Cyber Cell summons actor Tamannaah Bhatia for promoting FairPlay, a subsidiary app of Mahadev online gaming, allegedly involved in illegal streaming of IPL matches. FairPlay offers sports betting, including cricket, and is under scrutiny for streaming IPL matches illegally.
Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned actor Tamannaah Bhatia for her alleged involvement in promoting FairPlay, a subsidiary app of Mahadev online gaming, which is under investigation for its connection to the illegal streaming of IPL matches. Bhatia, known for her roles in films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Lust Stories 2’, has been called as a witness and directed to appear before the cyber cell next week.
The summons comes amidst allegations that certain IPL matches were streamed illegally on the FairPlay app, causing financial losses to broadcasters. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has intensified its investigation into the matter, having previously recorded statements from singer Badshah and the managers of actors Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez.
FairPlay is a betting exchange platform that offers a range of sports and entertainment gambling options, with cricket being the most popular sport on the platform. The app allows users to watch live sports matches while engaging in betting activities, promoting the concept of “watch and win at the same time.”
Linked to the Mahadev online gaming app, FairPlay has come under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in illegal betting activities, including the streaming of IPL matches without authorization. The Mahadev app, operated by individuals based in Dubai, has faced legal troubles in the past, with actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with the app’s operations.
The Mahadev app’s operations have been under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate for over a year, with allegations of money laundering and involvement of high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh. The projected proceeds of crime in this case are estimated to be around Rs 6,000 crore, according to the ED.
As the investigation progresses, the summons issued to Tamannaah Bhatia sheds light on the broader legal scrutiny facing the FairPlay and Mahadev apps, highlighting the challenges posed by illegal online betting and streaming activities in the digital age.
