Karan Johar announces Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, releasing in November 2024. The film will be directed by Shazia Iqbal.
Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially announced Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. The announcement comes over a year after Johar had denied any plans of making a sequel to Dhadak. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 22, 2024.
Taking to Instagram, Karan Johar shared a motion poster featuring Siddhant and Triptii. In the poster, their characters, Neelesh and Vidhi, are seen holding each other, with a poignant voiceover exchange: Siddhant’s Neelesh says, “Jo sapna tum dekh rahi ho Vidhi usme mere liye koi jagah nahi hai (The dream you have, Vidhi, has no place for me).” Triptii’s Vidhi responds, “Toh phir yeh bhi bata do Neelesh ki in feelings ka kya karun (Then let me know, Neelesh, what should I do with my feelings)?”
Karan Johar captioned his post, “Yeh kahani hai thodi alag kyuki ek tha raja, ek thi raani, jaat alag thi, khatam kahani (This story is a little different because there was a king, there was a queen – their castes were different… end of story). Presenting Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi & Triptii Dimri. Directed by Shazia Iqbal. #Dhadak2 in cinemas 22nd November 2024.”
Siddhant Chaturvedi also shared the motion poster, adding, “Ek raja, ek rani, ek kahaani, do dhadkane (One king, one queen, one story–two heartbeats).” He emphasized that the film explores societal barriers of class and status, underscoring a narrative of love that faces many obstacles.
Last year, Karan Johar had dismissed reports about Dhadak 2, stating on Instagram, “To put this on the record and for all concerned, we (Dharma Productions) are NOT making a film with the title DHADAK 2 as is being reported in various articles…”
Dhadak, released in 2018, was a remake of the Marathi film Sairat, and starred Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, it told an intense love story of two protagonists fighting societal norms to be together.
With Dhadak 2, Johar aims to continue the theme of love challenging societal boundaries, potentially creating a franchise that explores love stories against all odds.
